Extend a Standard Search Help without any Programming

Verifying the Enhanced Collective Search Help

Finally let’s test and confirm that our work shows up on the Purchase Order correctly.

Testing this is quite simple.

Step 1 : Execute TCode ME21N to bring up the Purchase Order.

Step 2 : Fill up the desired data into your Purchase Order screen.

Step 3 : Locate the Batch number field and take the F4 help.

Notice that our custom search help appears in the list of possible ways to search for Batch numbers.

Final Testing PO

And all the corresponding values for the particular Batch number for the selected Material based on the WBS element are presented for selection.

Final Testing PO Output
That’s it. Our Search help is now ready to be used.

Point to consider :
Though the process looks streamlined, you might need to test it every step of the way to verify that your search help is coming out nicely.
All through this development I had several discussions with my business user to verify that this solution would work for them.

Notice there is hardly any programming involved in these steps. Its a great way for functional consultants to get their hands wet on some bits of development

Finally though, my client loves the new search help and its now happily thriving in their production server.

I hope you liked this short tutorial on Search Help Enhancements.
If you like it please consider sharing it.

I also plan to write some more tutorials in this area so keep those ideas flowing.

HI, although I’m a technical developer and I do understand that this explanation is wonderful for functional people, it’s very nicely described! Keep up the good work & keep on sharing.

    • Thats Nice Saurabh!! – Now If I get the same feedback from some functional people — then the blog has served its purpose .. 🙂
I am working on some more articles like these ones — come back for more.

Hi Linking sir. The information you share is always easy to understand and great ! It clears of doubts in the technical areas we work in and in fact other areas as well. The images displayed make it more easier to understand the technical details. But here, I request you to provide a zoom functionality for the images, so we could zoom in more to the image details.

    Thanks you.
